The group has 44,000 employees across the globe. AREVA relies on a full range of skills to meet the challenge of the future: to ensure the long-term supply of uranium for the production of nuclear-generated electricity while steadily reducing CO2 emissions. The group’s human resources policy in Niger and elsewhere in the world focuses on its employees’ welfare by protecting their health and safety and developing their skills.
Priority to local employment and the transfer of skills
Convinced that diversity is a valuable resource, SOMAïR et COMINAK employ individuals with varied and complementary profiles. The group has made a sustained effort to train its personnel in Niger since it began working there in the late 1950s. As a consequence, 99% of AREVA’s 2,500 employees in Niger are Nigerien.
The expatriate managers who continue to work in Niger enable the transfer of knowledge and know-how.
Nigerien senior managers have been trained at French or Nigerien engineering schools and at the group's mining sites in France or elsewhere. The mining companies SOMAÏR and COMINAK were also responsible for the creation of the EMAÏR (École des mines de l'Aïr), a training school for mining technicians and supervisors located in Agadez.
To promote the sharing of skills, AREVA offers Nigerien managers positions with high levels of responsibility in other international subsidiaries, particularly in France, Canada and Africa.
